MEDIA LINKS	‘YOUNG ARTISTS AWARDS' In keeping with the yearly tradition ‘Silks Gallery' will continue to host the ‘ Young Artists Awards' with many more cash prizes yet to be won. This is a not for profit competition with 30% of the sales money given to charity. The gallery will award a total of EUR 3000 in cash prizes to the 3 award winners that are selected by a celebrity panel of art community judges. This competition is open to artists from around the world. The top 20 works selected will be exhibited at ‘Silks Gallery' in Cyprus (duration 2 weeks). Submissions of the artworks for the "2009 Young Artists Awards" are accepted from 26th January 2008 until 1st January 2009. TERMS & CONDITIONS This competition is open to visual artists, worldwide . (‘Silks Gallery' reserves the right to adjust cash prizes awarded to the places listed below.) Young Artists Awards • First Place - ( EUR 1500 & 1 st Place Certificate) • Second Place - ( EUR 1000 & 2 nd Place Certificate) • Third Place - ( EUR 500 & 3 rd Place Certificate) • Honorable Mention - (Honorable Mention Certificate) ELIGIBILITY Open to all visual artists worldwide - 16 to 35 years of age. The following media will be accepted: painting, drawing, graphics (includes digital), photography, mixed media, print making. NOTE: •  All works submitted must not exceed 120cm (height) x 100cm (length). •  All artworks must be framed and must have a proper string / hook for hanging attached at the back. Works that are larger than the above dimensions AND /OR submitted without a frame will be penalized or even rejected at the discretion of Silks Gallery Management. •  Applicants must fill out an Application Form •  Applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee of 30 Euros for up to 3 works or jpeg images and 5 Euros for every additional work or jpeg image. •  The maximum number of works or jpeg images that can be submitted is 8. (The more artworks / images you submit the higher are your chances of qualifying for the top 20 and hence for winning the competition. Each submitted work is judged separately.) •  Applicants must be 16 to 35 years old. •  The closing date for all Applications is 1st January 2009. •  Silks Gallery will carry no responsibility or compensate for pieces that get lost during transportation to the gallery by the artist. It is the artist's responsibility to ensure safe packaging and delivery of the pieces. •  For Return of submissions see Return Of Submissions section below. •  Only 20 artworks out of all submissions will be selected for the Young Artists Awards exhibition. Out of these 20 finalists only 4 will be awarded the prizes. •  The top 20 finalists will only showcase 1 work each at the exhibition. •  The artists will have the option to sell their artwork during the exhibition. Prices can be set by the artists and for every piece sold 30% of the money will be given to a charity appointed by Silks Gallery. Artwork Submission Requirements ... Artworks may be delivered to the gallery if you are applying from Cyprus (see our address at the bottom of the Application Form). For overseas submissions artworks may be submitted by email (digital files) or by mail (high resolution photographs up to 6" x 8"). All artworks should be clearly and neatly labeled (at the back) with the artist's name , title of work, medium, dimensions and price in Euros. The same information should also be listed clearly on the Application Form. In case your submitted images are selected as the top 20 you will be notified via phone or email with further instructions on how to dispatch your work. Submitting Works By Hand Original artworks may be submitted in person or delivered to the gallery address from the opening date to the deadline for submission of entries during the following hours: Monday – Friday 10:00 - 19:00 Saturday 11:00 - 14:00 By Email Digital artwork image files will be accepted via email and should be named in conjunction with the actual artwork title. All images should be high resolution – 300dpi – jpeg file format . All jpegs should be saved at the highest quality. All artwork image files should represent your work accurately and honestly. The email should include an attached Word Doc Application Form that you can save on your computer as a Word Document and attach to your email together with your images or simply cut and paste it into the contents of your email. By Post The photographs should be clearly labeled at the back with artist's name, title of work, medium, dimensions & price of the actual artwork. A printed Application Form is to be included in the envelope together with the photographs. Return of Applications All applications received will not be returned. Return of Submissions All original artworks submitted from Cyprus will be available for pickup as soon as the jury has come to their final decision of whether or not the works will be accepted in the top 20 artworks selected for the exhibition. All original artworks submitted from overseas will be returned upon completion of the exhibition (see Exhibition Date below) and upon receipt of payment for shipping. Local European and International shipping rates will apply. Artist Notification All artist that are selected as the top 20 participants will be notified via email as soon as the judges have come to their final decision. All artists that do not make it into the top 20 will be notified via email or phone to come and collect their original artworks. NOTE: ONLY (1) ONE ARTWORK IRRESPECTIVE OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PIECES SUBMITTED BY THE ARTIST WILL BE CHOSEN TO BE EXHIBITED AT THE AWARDS (SOLELY AT THE DISCRETION OF SILKS GALLERY AND / OR THE JUDGES) SHOULD YOUR APPLICATION BE APPROVED. IF ONE OF YOUR WORKS IS SELECTED TO GO IN THE TOP 20 YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PICK UP YOUR WORKS THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT IN THE TOP 20 UPON COMPLETITION OF THE YOUNG ARTISTS AWARDS EXHIBITION. Entry Fee The entry fee from (1) up to three (3) original artworks, digital images or photographs is €30 .00 (Euros) . Artists that wish to enter more than three (3) art pieces may do so but they must pay an additional €5.00 fee for each original artwork, digital image or photograph over three (3) with a maximum of eight (8) originals, digital images or photographs. Cash, checks and all major credit cards are accepted when paying in person upon submission of the artworks by hand. For European and International submissions banker's drafts and money orders must be in Euros and payable to Silks Gallery. Just press the button below and print out your online transaction receipt to include with your entry form and digital images or photographs and mail to Silks Gallery. Entry fees are not refundable. Announcing The Winners The top 3 winners together with the honorable mention (4 th place) will be announced at the opening night on October 3 rd , 2008 of the YOUNG ARTISTS AWARDS exhibition by a celebrity guest speaker. Shortly after the opening the winners will also be announced online. Receiving Your Award The 3 finalist will receive their awarded prize money in Euros (in conjunction with the place awarded) upon completion of the exhibition. The finalist will be contacted by the gallery for their preferred way of receiving the cash prize for example, cash / bank check (if the winner is in Cyprus), OR wire transfer / banker's draft if the winner is overseas. The prize Certificates will be mailed simultaneously. Selling Your Artwork All the 20 finalists will have an opportunity to sell their artwork during the actual exhibition. The Gallery will donate 30% of all the sales to charity. Those artists whose artworks will sell will be contacted about how they wish to receive their money as soon as the exhibition ends. The gallery will be able to credit you for your sale in the following ways: CASH / BANK CHECK – if you are applying from Cyprus . WIRE TRANSFER / BANKER'S DRAFT – if you are applying from overseas. Exhibition Date Will be announced soumetime in 2009. Entries Deadline All entries must be received by 1st January 2009.
